Welding Tool |
The Axis tool is a tool of the Tool Gun. It creates an axis constraint that is a point on which an object will rotate on an axis while restricting its rotation on the 2 other axes. It's like a welding tool, but the entity the axis tool is being used on can rotate freely on one axis.
The axis tool is commonly used for steering wheeled vehicles, or even making a helicopter. A common mistake is to weld after using the axis tool, which actually welds it in place instead of letting it rotate on the predefined axis.
Pressing the primary fire key makes an auto-aligned axis constraint, which acts like Easy Weld but without the rotation alignment part since it will rotation on such axis.
Pressing the secondary fire key creates an axis constraint without auto-aligning similar to a weld. This is useful if you have already aligned the constraint or you want the 2 entities the axis constraint is used on to have some distance from each other.
Pressing the reload key will remove the axis constraints attached to the entity the crosshair is on unless if it's the world.
Configuration
It has maximum force and torque variables that if the force or torque exceeds the limit then the constraint will break unless both variables are 0. There is a hinge friction variable that the higher the value, the more force is required to spin an entity the constraint is used on and it will slow down faster when it stops getting forces to rotate it. Negative values are interpreted as 0. The values for those are set when making the constraint.
