Steam Workshop Replacement

With the introduction of the Steam Workshop, garrysmod.org became useless. The Steam Workshop provided comparable features, enabling users to effortlessly discover and integrate addons, save games, and demos into Garry’s Mod with a simple click. This shift ultimately resulted in the decline of garrysmod.org, as users increasingly favored the convenience and accessibility offered by the Steam Workshop for accessing Garry’s Mod content.

Legacy

While garrysmod.org is no longer operational, it continued to evoke nostalgia among OG members of the Garry’s Mod community. Valued for its unique collection of addons, some exclusive to the platform, the site is remembered. Its legacy as a hub for creativity and innovation within the Garry’s Mod community endures, despite its closure. garrysmod.org went down in 2014 but the community successfully backed up the content and launched garrysmods.org to replace garrysmod.org. Unfortunately, garrysmods.org also went down in 2023, redirecting the user to the Garry's Mod Workshop homepage. There is no publicly available archive for most of the content that got uploaded to garrysmod.org or garrysmods.org without being uploaded to the Workshop meaning thousands of addons are not available for download anymore at all.
